Cosmic Web

We have identified “Cosmic Web Stripping” as a new possible mechanism to explain the observed scarcity of dwarf galaxies compared with the theoretically predicted large number of low-mass objects in a Universe made mainly of Cold Dark Matter and Dark Energy. We found that some of the far-out dwarf galaxies in the Local Group move with such high velocities with respect to the Cosmic Web that most of their gas can be stripped off while they cross the local web structures.
