Animation of the gas, stellar and dark matter density within a zoom simulation of the Local Group and surroundings within 10 Mpc at the present time. The stellar mass is concentrated in the centres of dark matter halos, whilst the gas is visibly forming filamentary structures. Also see this article: Creasey et al. 2015.

The candidates for Andromeda and the Milky Way (G1 and G2 respectively) are identified, along with 4 other galaxies of similar stellar mass.
